SUMMARY: President Yoweri Museveni has emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline among soldiers through the General Court Martial (GCM).Museveni made the remarks yesterday while addressing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe, ahead of today’s second reading of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

SUMMARY: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the residents of Kitagwenda District for their cooperation in maintaining peace and rejecting rebel activities. He credited the prevailing peace to the National Resistance Movement (NRM’s) politics of interest rather than identity, its commitment to women’s emancipation, and non-discrimination based on religion or tribe.

MANDATORY MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS TO START

SUMMARY: The Ministry of Works and Transport is scheduled to begin mandatory inspections of motor vehicles and motorcycles on July 1, 2025. Eng. Karim Kibuuka, the Head of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Section at the Ministry, said yesterday that the initiative aims at enhancing road safety by ensuring all vehicles meet the required standards. He revealed that the inspections will cover vehicle transmission, lighting, electrical, exhaust systems and other critical components.

NEW TRAFFIC FINES START BITING TODAY

SUMMARY: The Police and the Ministry of Works and Transport are expected to start enforcement of the new traffic regulations in which motorists are to pay traffic fines within 72 hours (three days) after the issuance of the express penalty scheme (EPS) tickets today. The motorists will be slapped with a 50 percent surcharge upon failure to pay the EPS tickets within three days.
