President Museveni to Launch new cement and clinker factory in Karamoja

President Museveni to Launch new cement and clinker factory in Karamoja

by GCIC / Sunday, 19 April 2026 / Published in Government Directory, Open Government, Opinion

President Museveni is set to commission an over $300 Million Cement Plant Launch, a move that signals a new era for Karamoja and Uganda’s Industrial Growth.

Yaobai Cement Uganda  will officially launch its state-of-the-art cement plant in Moroto, in a landmark investment set to reshape Uganda’s manufacturing sector as well unlock new economic potential in the Karamoja sub-region.

The ceremony is expected to attract several dignitares and investors from the region, as well as key investors from Africa.

It will also be attended by various cabinet ministers, heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), private sector leaders, cultural figures, and local leaders from across Karamoja.

With an investment of over USD300million, the  plant is one of the largest industrial investments in northern Uganda. Its establishment marks a turning point for Karamoja—a region that has long been associated with insecurity and underdevelopment. At its phase one of operations, the plant produces over 6000 tones of clinker daily.

The subregion is now steadily opening up to investment, jobs, and infrastructure.

The factory is expected to reduce Uganda’s reliance on imported clinker by more than 2.5 million tonnes annually.

Industry players say increased local production will help stabilise cement supply and could ease prices over time, supporting Uganda’s fast-growing construction sector.

Additionally, beyond the numbers, the impact is being felt on the ground. Communities around Moroto are seeing new economic activity, improved household incomes, and renewed optimism about the future.

The event will also, hlighlight the region’s identity as it takes its central place in Uganda’s industrial journey.
