Summary: Over 90% of the candidates who sat last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have qualified to join secondary school. Data from the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) indicates that 722,730 (91.8%) of the 786,981 candidates who sat for PLE in 2024 qualified to join secondary schools after attaining the required scores.

Summary: It has been a common practice that some primary school leavers join community polytechnics, technical and farm schools, study for three years and are awarded a Uganda Junior Crafts Certificate (UTC), an equivalent of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE). However, the First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, has said this practice needs to change to allow Primary Seven leavers to complete at least Senior Four, before they can transition to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The two Heads of State were awarded during the two-day Africa Youth Congress 2025, a youth event held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, last week.
